OPEN CALL for Literary Curator

Czech Centre Tel Aviv in partnership with the EUNIC Cluster Israel, is looking for an experienced and creative Literary Curator for the upcoming edition of the European Night of Literature (ENL)—one of the flagship cultural events promoting European literature in Israel.

About the European Night of Literature

The ENL is a unique cultural evening celebrating contemporary European writing. In one night, translated excerpts from selected European authors are presented to Israeli audiences by prominent actors in Tel Aviv. The event aims to foster cultural exchange, showcase literary diversity, and deepen the dialogue between Europe and Israel.

Each year, we choose a theme that reflects not only diverse narratives but also contemporary trends in literature. In recent years, themes have included Science Fiction, European Childhood, Female Heroes, and European Love. Our goal is to present meaningful and relevant motifs and voices, showcasing a broad spectrum of perspectives. This careful curation ensures that the works we promote resonate with current cultural and social dialogues in Israel.Role & Responsibilities

The curator will be responsible for shaping the literary concept and content of the 2026 edition, including:

1. Curatorial Concept

  • Develop the main theme for the event, reflecting contemporary literary trends and relevant cultural discussions.

  • Ensure the theme allows for a rich, diverse selection of European voices.

2. Selection of Texts

  • Work closely with EUNIC member institutes and project producers to Identify and propose excerpts from contemporary European authors, ensuring:

  • Literary quality

  • Diversity in style and representation

  • Relevance to the theme and Israeli audience

  • Provide context and curatorial notes

4. Artistic Guidance

  • Assist in pairing selected texts with appropriate Israeli actors.

  • Provide insights to ensure that the presentation of excerpts aligns with the curatorial vision.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in literary curation, programming, or editorial work

  • Strong knowledge of contemporary European literature

  • Understanding of the Israeli cultural and literary landscape

  • Ability to conceptualize and communicate a strong artistic vision

Work Timeline
