Noise Scouts: Intercultural sound art project

Noise Scouts is an intercultural sound art project realized in cooperation with Felicja: Musical Art Center and Jaffa Well House. Artists from Europe and Israel collaborate with young people from the Christian Orthodox and Muslim communities in Jaffa. Through joint workshops, they explore the creative potential of sound and noise—not as disturbance, but as an expression of diversity, identity, and dialogue. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with the cultural institutes of four EU Member States.

The project connects the tradition of musical marches in Jaffa with contemporary sound art. In six workshops, participants delve into the fundamentals of noise music and develop their own musical concepts. The process culminates in the joint creation of a “Noise March,” which will be publicly performed during the holiday season.

Programme:

Phase 1: Six workshops on noise music, improvisation, and instrument building (each 2–3 hours) held in separate groups. The invited musicians from Europe are Limpe Fuchs (Germany), Michael Fischer (Austria), Lucie Páchová (Czech Republic), and Gintautas Rožė (Lithuania).

Phase 2: Four joint workshops dedicated to the development of the “Noise March,” including composition, instrument building, and the involvement of additional participants.

Phase 3: Production meetings, a dress rehearsal, and the public performance. Expected at the end of January 2026. The exact date will be announced later.

Noise Scouts: Intercultural sound art project

At the core of the Czech artist Lucie Páchová’s artistic practice lies her interest in exploring the phenomenon of listening and its many layers. She perceives listening as a primal source of connection, relation, support, and care.

She works with field recordings, voice, found objects, a prepared zither, simple electronics, and movement to engage in dialogue with the environments, spaces, people, organisms, and objects around her.

Travel, motion, spaces, encounters, and soundscapes often serve as key impulses that find their way into the music she creates in collaboration with various individuals, collectives, and ensembles.

Sharing this process through workshops, sessions, and teaching is an integral part of her work. She believes that collective exploration of listening and improvisation fosters greater sensitivity and understanding — both in music and in life.
