The black comedy Occupation by debuting director Michal Nohejl will open this year's Czech Film Week in Israel. The movie, with a visually refined style and an atmosphere which, according to the creators, refers to the work of David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino, is based on an old humorous story. It takes place in an anonymous bar and happens over the course of one night. The main roles are played by Martin Pechlát, Otakar Brousek, Antonie Formanová, Cyril Dobrý and Vlastimil Venclík. In the role of the Russian soldier, the director cast Ukrainian actor Aleksey Gorbunov, known for example from Nikita Mikhalkov's 12 or Bondarchuk's War and Peace. Welcome to the bar, where human nature billows like cigarette smoke! FAMU graduate Michal Nohejl collaborated on his feature film with long-time colleagues from the advertising industry, where he is one of the top in his field. The editor of Occupation is Petr Turyna, acclaimed for The Idiot Returns, Whisper and Indian Summer. Behind camera there was Jan Baset Střítežský (Little Crusader and Alois Nebel movies).
Synopsis
One night in a smoky bar, the actors are celebrating after a performance. Their party is disrupted by a drunken Russian soldier. He is an unwelcome visitor, as the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia is underway. The actors are wondering how to deal with the embodiment of the hated regime. One of them thinks of pretending that the Russian man fell into Nazi captivity.
