Švanda Theater - Shoah

Švanda Theatre from Prague will present its award-winning production of Shoah to an Israeli audience. The performance will be in Czech with Hebrew subtitles. The main roles will be played by Marta Dancingerová and Miroslav Hruška, with Daniel Hrbek directing.

The production of Shoah tells the story of two people whose fates, despite never having met, constantly crossed - they experienced the same places and horrific events: Terezín, Auschwitz, the Death March and the subsequent post-war injustice. The production presents two extraordinary life paths during the Nazi terror through the authentic memories of two very different personalities - the athlete Miloš Dobrý and the actress Hana Pravdová.

An English version was successfully put on Broadway stage in New York.

"The intertwined monologues don’t enhance or refract each other as much as you might wish, but they’re both compelling." - Alexis Soloskiaug, The New York Times

"Specifics give the story its power and its horror: the size of the boots that pinch Milos’s feet so badly that his toes start to fester, the frozen cabbages that Hana and other prisoners fight over during a forced march, the tulip bulbs that Milos eats, having mistaken them for onions." - Alexis Soloskiaug, The New York Times

"Mr. Hrbek encourages his actors to treat the material with appropriate gravity and fervor." - Alexis Soloskiaug, The New York Times

"And given the facts of each story, it is remarkable that Mr. Dobry and Ms. Pravda lived to offer their testimony at all." - Alexis Soloskiaug, The New York Times

"Fortunately for the cast and crew of The Good and the True, everything else about their production is entirely and startlingly remarkable." - Martin Pengelly, The Guardian
