This year, the Docaviv Festival has selected the Czech documentary Change My Mind for its program, with a screening taking place in Tel Aviv as part of the festival lineup. One of Israel’s leading and internationally acclaimed documentary film festivals, Docaviv blends the spirit of a road movie with dark humor in Change My Mind, which follows a journey from the relative safety of the Czech Republic into war-torn Ukraine, offering a compelling and deeply human perspective on the realities of war and uncertainty.

If you thought the war in Ukraine is a hoax, how far would you go to see the truth? It began with a public casting call: “Do you think the war in Ukraine is a hoax? Is the media lying about the number of casualties and the consequences of the special military operation in Ukraine? Come to a casting and become a hero in a new film.”
From dozens of applicants, three Czech citizens were selected—individuals who harbor pro-Putin sentiments and believe that Western media (which they view as far too liberal and “green”) is biased in favor of Ukraine. To crack their ideological armor—and perhaps even realign them with reality—Kvapil takes them on an eye-opening trip to the front lines, where they experience firsthand what it means to live amid destruction and under constant threat. How do skeptics react when rockets fly overhead? When they hide in shelters or walk among mass graves? When they talk to children in underground metro schools, or wounded soldiers, and grieving families? Pull back the curtain of lies, fake news and propaganda and embark on a road trip with them as they take a journey to truth through a war zone. Did we change their minds? The experiment leads to poignant encounters and deeply unsettling results. In facing them, this fascinating and urgently timely human record of the post-truth era raises a profound question: Do facts still matter?
