On Monday, August 14, the hall of Tel Aviv Cinematheque was almost sold out. Viewers were already looking forward to the opening of the next Czech Film Week, which will again this year bring a selection of the best Czech movies. The festival kicked off with the award-winning Czech film Il Boemo.
Before the start of the film, Pini Schatz, Program Director of the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, welcomed the audience, wished them a nice time and invited them to the upcoming screening. Then he handed over the floor to the next speaker, the director of the Czech Centre, Jan Štern. He also wished the visitors a good time and thanked everyone who came to the screening.
Il Boemo, a film about the life of the famous Czech composer Josef Mysliveček, won the audience over within the first few frames. Mysliveček's excellent music and detailed costume work created a wonderful combination that left a deep viewer experience. Not surprisingly, admiring applause rang through the hall several times during the screening.
The movie won the Czech Lion Award for Best Feature Film of 2022. In addition to Tel Aviv, it will also be screened in Jerusalem and Haifa on Tuesday and Wednesday.
During the following days of the festival, visitors can look forward to the drama Arvéd by director Vojtěch Mašek, who will personally come to Israel and present the film at screenings. This year's Czech Film Week will also feature comedies The Good Soldier Svejk and The Tank Battalion. Last but not least, viewers will have the opportunity to see the award-winning 1960s film The Party and the Guests.
