National theatre Brno brought great performance Mother to HaBima theatre in Tel Aviv

On a rainy February evening, we were welcomed by the magnificent Habima Theater, hosted by the National Theater Brno. Karel Čapek's anti-war drama Matka, staged by Štěpán Pácl, was not missed by hundreds of local viewers and Czech expatriates living in Israel. The exceptional evening was introduced by the Czech ambassador Martin Stropnický, and the director of the Tel Aviv National Theater Noam Semel also visited the play.

Karel Čapek's anti-war drama did not see the boards of the Habim Theater for the first time. The play appeared here less than a year after its release in the Czech Republic, with the famous Hanna Rovina in the lead role. This time the titular role of Mother was played by Tereza Groszmannová, who brought many in the audience to tears with her sensitive and emotional performance. No wonder, in today's world, the game is once again taking on terrifying relevance. It reminds us of the recent pandemic and the fact that the war conflict once again reached the gates of Europe. Of course, this theme also resonates strongly with the residents of Israel, due to local historical experiences. After a great theater performance, the ensemble of the Brno theater also got to know the local art scene. Noam Semel spared no flattery to Tereza Grozsmannová. However, this cultural interaction does not end there, and this year we can look forward to a tour from Tel Aviv and the play The one my soul as part of the Theater World Brno festival.

Last but not least, we would like to thank the company Smartwings, without whose support the whole event would hardly have been possible.
