On Friday, 2 September 2022, the Concert for Europe will be held in Prague, right on the Vltava River in the heart of the city's historic centre. The orchestra will stand on a floating stage and this special event can be viewed in a number of ways - directly from the swaying stage, from the nearby Legion Bridge, from passing boats and steamers, but also from the comfort of home. The entire concert will be streamed online and it can also be viewed via the Facebook page of the Czech Centre Tel Aviv.
A total of 170 musicians of the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Philharmonic Choir will play Ludwig van Beethoven's Ode to Joy in the opening. The programme also includes Antonín Dvořák's energetic Carnival, Leoš Janáček's cantata Glagolitic Mass and Bedřich Smetana's unforgettable symphonic poem Vltava. The concert will take place directly on the Vltava River, whose flow and growth from a small trickle into a wide, confident river is the subject of the poem.
In addition, the concert will be ceremonially opened by the new bell #9801, which carries a symbolic value with its ringing. For every bell destroyed during World War II in 1942, one kilogram of weight was put into the bell, which is why it weighs exactly 9,801 kilograms.
The Concert for Europe is part of the Prague Sounds international music festival, which has a long tradition. In more than 25 years of its existence, it has presented a number of iconic musical personalities, but it has also systematically introduced a new generation of artists.
This year, for the first time, the concert on the Vltava River will be broadcast live to various parts of the world. The online streaming is provided on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The online stream will start at 9 PM Israeli time at this link.
