On a beautiful sunny Wednesday evening on the seventh of June, we were delighted to officially unveil the Street Meets Mural Art project. Many European cities are already decorated with murals by Czech artists, and Tel Aviv has finally joined them. From now on, the wall of the football stadium is decorated with a mural by Ilona Polanski, a prominent Czech illustrator who forms the duo Tomski and Polanski.
The mural fits beautifully in the HaTikva neighborhood, between the Beit Dani Community Center and the soccer stadium. Just like in the picture on the wall, in reality there are many children playing around, kicking a ball among adults with shopping, in the shade of palm trees, surrounded by music and an atmosphere of togetherness.
On that special Wednesday, under the open sky, the children drew together with Ilona coloring books with motifs from the mural, which she herself had prepared for them. Ilona gave us a lecture at the Beit Dani community center about her work and the work of the duo Tomski and Polanski. Images full of imagination and wit alternated with her popular gardening motifs and ingenious animations of the women's Tour de France. The audience was amazed at the artist's skill. The adults then enjoyed a relaxing early evening in the Czech style with a glass of refreshing beer, while the children ran around and sipped fruit juice. Everyone could listen to live music, which underlined the already great atmosphere.
