Engraved in memory: exhibition of Czech graphics festively opened

From 27 July you can visit the exhibition Engraved in Memory by the Czech graphic artist Miloš Michálek. The exhibited prints capture the passage of time, which is inscribed in the external form of objects and in the internal form of the human mind. The visual language of the artist is inspired above all by the story of the surface, which bears tangible traces left by man. Michálek complements this process with his own signs, creating a unique dialogue between the original surface of the object and its aesthetic imprint. The individual works offer a rich spectrum of possibilities for the viewer to read the printmaker. Through his graphic symbolism, the artist reflects a mentally scarred society and the intimate environment of family relationships. At the same time, he honours the meaning of art and with it the meaning of human life.

Prof. Mgr. Miloš Michálek is a leading Czech graphic designer, photographer and university teacher. His works bear his characteristic handwriting. He uses mainly woodcut, linocut, and drawing techniques. He works with the technique of printing from height and mostly prints from wooden matrices.

He is one of the founders of the Faculty of Art and Design at the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where he also works as a teacher. He has received numerous awards for his graphic work all over the world. Several times he succeeded in the national competition exhibition Graphics of the Year. His works have been included in more than seventy international graphic art exhibitions held in Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland, but also in Japan and South Korea.

Many thanks to our partners Gal Gaon Studio, GASK - Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region and Smartwings.
