Since the beginning of July, you can visit the original exhibition Kukbuk, created by the talented photographer with Czech-German origins Kateřina Sýsová. This series of photographs presents Czech dining culture, in which individual images represent Czech culinary customs and traditions in the form of visual jokes.
The author primarily works with photographic humour and kitsch. She creates open works that can be interpreted on different levels. In the pictures we can recognize classic Czech dishes such as pickled sausages, chicken paprikash, hairy dumplings or dumlings with poppy seeds. The series of photographs also touches upon the theme of the influence of the past on the present, or the relationship between image and word. The retro esthetics of the work also evokes a collective memory that can shape the thinking of an entire nation.
Kateřina Sýsová was awarded the title of Personality of Young Czech Photography under 30 by the Association of Professional Photographers in 2020. The basis of the author's work is staged photography. Her work has been exhibited at the Gask Gallery and the OFF festival in Bratislava. In the past, she has contributed to the books "Aby po nás něco zůstalo: příběhy novodobých zámeckých pánů" and "Rozhovory na hraně zítřka". She illustrated the poetry collection "Zastaveni" with her photography.
