Residency: Andrej Kalinka at Artport in Tel Aviv

Musician, director, and artist Andrej Kalinka is participating in a residency at Artport in Tel Aviv.

Andrej Kalinka (b. 1978) is a librettist, music composer, performer and director. He began in 1993 as a musician in underground and jazz bands. Gradually, he went on to study classical music (conducting and composition). Since 1996 he has begun to collaborate with various theater and musical companies/groups, first as a composer, later as a librettist, performer and director. He had an opportunity to go through a wide range of theater, music, dance genres – drama, puppet theater, contemporary dance, folk dance (theater) music, opera, cooperation with galleries, musical bodies, art schools as a pedagogue etc. He has collaborated with more than 30 companies and has contributed to more than 70 works. He also works as a teacher of interdisciplinarity in the studio of physical theater at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno (Czech Republic).

Since 2006, he has begun to search and create his own artistic language, and in 2011 founded artistic group HONEY AND DUST. As a librettist, music composer, performer and director he connects theatre, dance, music, words and visual arts and creates an authentic language and working method, which can be described as complementary art.

His work has been presented in various countries (Thailand, Poland, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Germany etc.), where he has won several awards (New Drama Festival, DOSKY – the main Slovak theater prize, PIF festival, HARMONY WORLD PUPPET CARNIVAL and other).

Artport

Artport is a home for the art community and aspires to be a location for experiments, inspiration, communal learning and unexpected connections. The artists in the program are invited to work in an open and supportive environment. Artport’s gallery encourages artistic inquiry, critical thinking and stretches the definitions of art. Artport is a meeting place, and invites artists and curators to take part in activities in ways that will enrich their practice as well as the local art scene.
